Your questions answered …
When and where do you meet?
Time: We rehearse from 7:15pm – 9:15pm every Thursday
Location: Our rehearsal venue is St Andrews Church, Mevagissey
How much does it cost to join the choir?
Fees are £4.00 per week. Free taster session for new members.
What type of music do you sing?
We perform a wide variety of songs including traditional, folk, musical theatre, contempory popular songs, as well as sea shanties. There’s something for everyone.
I have never sung in a choir before – does that matter?
No, but you do need to sing in tune. Our choir is open to all regardless of experience.
How do I know what part I should sing?
The choir is broken down into three singing parts:
- First Soprano (highest)
- 2nd Soprano (medium)
- Alto (lowest)
It does not matter at first if you do not know which part you should sing with. You can join a section and see how it feels.
Do I have to be able to sight sing (a.k.a read music)?
No! Very few of our members can, but we welcome those who do! Our Musical Director prepares learning audio tracks of the vocal parts for every song, and it becomes the responsibility of individual members to learn their relevant part.
I’m not a confident singer … will I have to sing solo?
No.
What do I need to bring with me?
A pencil to annotate your copy of the music, a love of singing, a bottle of water if you need it and your commitment to the choir.
Do I need to perform in concerts?
We are a performing choir and so we do encourage new members to join us at our concerts once our Musical Director considers that you are confident. Many of the concerts we do are to raise money for charity and to support local events. We give concerts throughout the year and performances are sung from memory.
Do I have to book to come along in advance?
No – you can just turn up! However if you would like to talk to anyone before coming… please feel free to contact us.
I would like to book your choir to sing at an event – who do I contact?
To book our choir for an event please contact our Secretary, Heather Alford on 01726 843114 or secretary@mevagisseyladieschoir.co.uk.
